Dr. David J. Ramsey serves as the Director of Ophthalmic Research and the Director of Tele-Ophthalmology in the Division of Ophthalmology at UMass Chan – Lahey School of Medicine, Department of Surgery. His research focuses on the prevention, detection, and management of eye diseases, including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. Dr. Ramsey has authored or co-authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications, meeting abstracts, and textbook chapters.
Dr. Ramsey earned his M.D.-Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine and a Master of Public Health in Health Policy & Administration from the UIC School of Public Health. After his studies in Chicago, he completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, followed by a combined medical and surgical fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, Harvard Medical School.
A diplomate and Examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology and a specialist in retinal diseases, Dr. Ramsey performs surgeries and provides patient care in Peabody and Burlington, Massachusetts. He holds the rank of Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at both UMass Chan Medical School and Tufts University School of Medicine, and he is also a faculty member at the New England College of Optometry in Boston.
